Description
Demolition is essential work that allows us to destroy hazardous structures or make way for new structures. Destruction can cause hazardous conditions for people on the site and the public. Take this course to learn about safe practices we use to ensure demolition safety before and during the work. You'll learn about how to plan for demolition and how to make safe choices during your work. This course is intended to supplement other training about specific project hazards and does not authorize people to perform demolition work on its own. Ideal learners are people who may work on, supervise or employ people who work on U.S. Army Corp of Engineer Projects or as a part of a demolition crew.
Objectives
- Identify the pre-demolition requirements for engineering surveys, demolition and renovation plans, and previously damaged structures
- Remember how to control utility lines inside and outside the building that may be affected by demolition work
- Recognize hazardous building materials that must be controlled or eliminated before demolition begins
- identify ways to secure the site and protect personnel and the public during demolition work
- Make safe choices about activities during demolition, including work progression, protection from glass fragmentation, equipment use and frequent inspections
- Choose safe practices for debris removal and disposal, structural demolition, mechanical demolition and blasting
