Mental Health: Destigmatizing is a course that helps you recognize and change the way you think about people suffering from a mental health issue. It's astounding to discover that 80% of Americans will deal with some type of uncontrollable mental illness during their lifetime. This statistic is worsened when we consider that those people are still treated with disdain by many of us. Mental health patients are frequently treated quite differently from people with other issues such as cancer or a physical disability. That's why this course is so important. This program discusses ways in which we can destigmatize mental illness. We talk about educating others by removing offensive language and descriptors, and talking openly about mental conditions rather than hiding them. Most importantly, we discuss how we can combat exclusion by showing compassion and respect to sufferers. Education is the key to discovery. This course helps by presenting ways we can all be instruments of progressive change.
