The competent person onsite and qualified person onsite are roles that OSHA requires for certain hazardous work like work at heights, excavation, and scaffolding. The difference between these two can be confusing at first so we've created this video toolbox talk to easily illustrate the differences.

Objectives

  • Differentiate between the roles of the competent and qualified person onsite
  • Identify what each of these roles includes on excavation sites, scaffolding jobs, and when fall protection is used
