With the number of motorists on the road today, safety is essential and we review how this affects the commercial driving industry in this Overview course. In the course, we will review the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) which created the data-driven compliance and enforcement program, Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) and look at the how the program promotes safety. We will also discuss the Safety Measurement System, or SMS, and the standards that are enforced around unsafe driving, service hours, driver fitness, controlled substances, vehicle maintenance, hazardous materials and crash indicators.
